Kalanoska sparks OCU to 95-30 win over Huston-Tillotson - Box Score

12/03/2006
Angela Kalanoska had 17 points, connecting on 6 of 11 shots from the floor.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Angela Kalanoska scored a career-high 17 points as Oklahoma City University routed Huston-Tillotson 95-30 in women’s basketball on Sunday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Kalanoska, a 6-foot-1 freshman from Struga, Macedonia, added six rebounds in 21 minutes of play. OCU coach
Rob Edmisson played Kalanoska with an eye to the future.
The Stars, third-ranked in NAIA Division I, went to 7-0. OCU faces fifth-ranked Houston Baptist at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Houston.
“I wanted her to get her shooting touch,” Edmisson said of Kalanoska. “She has a good shot. In a game like we have Thursday, people will focus on Alexandra Kotta or Chelsea Ledbetter. Usually it will be that player that comes off the bench that makes a difference.”
Houston Baptist is 4-2.
“We’re looking forward to Thursday,” Edmisson said. “We’re excited to have a litmus test of where we are, where we have to raise our focus level. We’ll have to play for 40 minutes.”
The Stars separated themselves from Huston-Tillotson by putting together an 8-0 run to build on a 13-9 lead. Ledbetter had a layup with 14:37 left in the first half to begin the run. Kay McConnell capped the run with a putback to put OCU up 21-9 with 12:47 left in the first half.
After Huston-Tillotson hit a free throw, OCU went on a 17-1 tear that included seven points by Kalanoska. Zanita Johnson ended that stretch by hitting a free throw with 4:05 left in the first half. OCU led 38-11.
“The game was not in doubt early,” Edmisson said. “We spent a lot of the game not getting challenged. We just need tougher games. We can’t get the tough teams to come play us.”
Johnson had 16 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Ledbetter added 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Huston-Tillotson committed 35 turnovers, off which OCU scored 44 points.
